Toyota PriusConsumer Reports loves the Prius. It has the top rating for reliability. While it looks rather meek and mild, the Prius holds the award for being among the cleanest vehicles sold in the United States from the EPA and California Air Resources Board. The Prius has had several years to get to this point. It first went on sale in Japan in 1997 before being introduced in the United States in 2001.

The Prius is a hybrid that combines an electric motor with a combustion engine. It’s only available as a five-door liftback.

Lexus NX – Lexus is the luxury subsidiary of Toyota, so reliability is in its blood. The Lexus NX (NX=Nimble Crossover) is the company’s compact upscale crossover SUV. It became a best-seller in both Europe and Russia,  was introduced in 2015, and is in its second generation.

In 2022, it was awarded the Top Safety Pick + by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for its overall good ratings in most of the safety categories, as well as its superior ratings in its front crash prevention technology.

Buick Encore – The Encore is classified as a subcompact crossover SUV, and made its debut in 2013. It took its style from Chevrolet’s Trax and was available in four trim levels. When the 2017 model was introduced, the trim levels had increased to six. This vehicle is slated for discontinuation after 2022, so if you find one then you might want to buy it now.

Lexus GX – Another Lexus on the most reliable list includes the GX, a full-sized SUV based on the Land Cruiser Prado, which makes it an off-road powerhouse. It’s driven by a 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE V8 and a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Honda HR-V – The HR-V was introduced in the United States in 2014, even though it had been on the road in Japan for several years before its U.S. debut. The U.S. version of the crossover SUV HR-V is larger than its Japanese counterpart, since it’s based on the Civic’s eleventh generation. No matter the version though, the reliability of a Honda can power it into the Top 10 list.

Toyota Prius Prime – The Prius Prime is the second-generation plug-in version of the Prius. It was introduced in the United States in 2016 and is the highest MPGe-rated vehicle of all in the all-electric mode class.
